Onsite Update

  • Created access, excavated and set initial gravel packed sump on Wednesday November 8th. Due to the amount of material and material makeup the sump failed. Over the last 6 days, including Saturday and Sunday. The main issue consisted of water backing up and cutting into the muck at upstream locations. In order to draw the water down to the most beneficial location, we utilized high pressure washers to establish the well point below the intake structure grate elevation. Over the last week we have utilized water injection dredging around the entire structure to remove over 100 CY of material to expose the grates (50,000 gallons of water). Due to the amount of muck, we have also needed to place approximately 250 tons of boulders to create stabi-lized banks, create pools, and cut down on the amount of silty, muck material still coming down stream.(Note: On Sunday November 11th, the weir gauge below the dam was reading 6.5)
  • As of tonight, November 14th, (2) 6” pumps are pumping water into the spillway at nearly full capacity. A 3rd 6 inch pump will need to be added today November 15th to draw the water down completely. Muck is still playing an issue, however we feel we are getting a handle on controlling pump blockage and sump build up.
  • Wench system set up Thursday morning on the dam and starting to remove misc. metals. When dewatering is consistent and complete, we will also begin removing pipe. Anticipated for Friday or Saturday. KGCI will be working through the weekend and next week to continue removal of any misc. metals and installation of new spool valve, as well as maintain dewatering operations.
  • Forthcoming submittals:
    • 02 83 33-2 Bills of Lading and Recycling Certificates for Misc. Metals
    • 02 83 33-4 Bills of Lading and Certificates of Disposal for Hazardous Waste
    • 02 83 3305 Remaining Metalwork Inspection Report
    • 03 30 00-1 Reinforcement Diagrams and Lists
